Hemoglobin Values in Healthy Infants and Children in Seoul, Korea

Abstract
Hemoglobin levels were measured in 874 healthy infants and children from birth to 15 years of age. Measurement was made using cyanmethemoglobin method. The following findings were noted.
1) The mean hemoglobin value in cord blood of newborn was 17.Ogm/IOOml. By the 7th day of life the mean increased to 19.5gm/IOOml for males with statistically significance(p<0. 01) and to 18.lgm/IOOml(p>0.05) for females.
2) There was a significant decrease in hemoglobin values from I to 2 months of age?11. 9gm/100ml for males and 11.4gm/IOOml for females. Thereafter, between the 3 to llmonths hemoglobin values showed 12. Q,?13. Ogm/100ml.
3) At the I to 2 years of age hemoglobin value was 12.4?12.9gm/IOOml. Between the 2 to 3 years mean was 13.Ogm/IOOml for males and 12.7gm/100m1 for females. Between the age 4 and 6 years males showed a mean hemoglobin level as 12.8gm/100m1 and females as 13.4gm/100m1. Thereafter, mean hemoglobin levels were raised as age increased. The mean levels in 9 to 1I years of age were 13. Igm/IOOmi for males and 12.4gm/ 100m1 for females. The highest values of hemoglobin level occurred in the 12 to 15 years of age-14. 6gm/IOOml for males and 13.7gm/100m1 for females.
